I've been an Art Educator at New Albany High School since 2005. I have a degree in Visual Arts Education and Theatre (costume design) from Morehead State University. I earned my Master’s in Education from Indiana University S.E. in 2010. An active member of Art Education Association of Indiana serving on the executive council as District co-rep and Webmaster. I continue my educational journey through conferences at both the state and national levels; leading workshops at the state level. I also attend workshops from other venues to learn new skills and techniques from professional artist in the field that can be brought back to the classroom and shared with my students.

My Classes...

Intro to 2d/3d

Intro to 2D & 3D Art is a year long course that offers students the  experience to explore a wide range of Visual Arts media from paint and pastels to clay and fabric!
This class is a prerequisite for all other Visual Art Classes and prepares students to be successful in them!

Ceramics
1/2 & 3/4

Ceramics is a year long course with clay as the primary medium. Students will learn hand building techniques and how to throw on the potter's wheel to create both functional and sculptural works. A wide range of surface design techniques and glazing methods will be explored.

 

Jewelry

Jewelry is a NEW year long course at NAHS! 

Students will create pieces of jewelry by designing and fabricating. Techniques including resin casting, forming with porcelain, enameling, metal smithing, (sawing, piercing, filing, and soldering) will be utilized.

 

Fiber arts

Fiber Arts is being offered as a one semester course.  Students will learn basic hand sewing techniques, create unique one-of-a-kind fabrics through a variety of dyeing techniques, embroidery stitches and how to use a sewing machine to fabricate items like pillows, hand bags, aprons, etc.

advanced 3d

Advanced 3D is a NEW one semester course at NAHS! 

Students will work from a theme to create a body of work that explores various sculptural techniques including modeling, casting, carving, construction and assemblage and a wide range of materials including clay, plaster, wood, wire, and found objects. 

 

ap studio art

AP Studio Art is student driven instruction based of inquiry, experimentation, practice, reflection, and revision. Students will develop inquiry questions to guide their work. Students are expected to formally submit their digital portfolios – 15 images as well as digital images of 5 works (2 views of each) for advanced Placement Studio Art Credit.
